Jawa Burning (22)

And so ends Pt.III of the comic

He returns specifically to burn dead Jawas?

I thought they made Threepio do that. Cruel really, considering that he has smell-receptors.

A sombre note to end this part of the comic. But never fear dear reader! More unintentionally funny pages are lurking, waiting to make their appearance.

Artwork Notes

forever man and dracula

The amazing 'Forever Man' story of 1978 by the incomparable artists Gene Colan & Tom Palmer
(Tomb of Dracula)

Read about ToD here!

More nice colour here. Colouring pencils and felt-tips.

See those funny crescent shapes on their cheekbones? I think I know where that came from! Did any of you ever read the fantastic MARVEL 'Tomb of Dracula' comics of the 1970's? I started collecting them a year ago. I suddenly recalled, after finding two old copies in my old bedroom, just how much Gene Colan and Tom Palmer's artwork excited and inspired me. Any-hoo... there was a story in issue#57 called 'The Forever Man'. Sorry, 'Forevvvvvverrrrr Maaaaan'. The character - The Forever Man - had a crescent moon mark on his cheekbone. Have a look for yourself, left.

Did any of you readers ever copy some little feature like this? Another that I sometimes copied was Johnny Red's nose-crease as drawn in Battle Comic.

Seriously?

Anyway, enough of these non-Star Wars diversions (they must be getting tiresome). Now that we've seen the destruction of the Lars Homestead, have any of you heard of this Facebook campaign to restore it?

save the lars homestead

Seems like a nice idea. But really - why ISN'T George Lucas supporting it? What do you think?

Hang on - I just did a bit more searching. I think it's only the Prequel Trilogy version. It's just a feeble set! You know, it's always amazed me how movie types often just leave their junk lying all over the place when they abandon a location.

So really, the question is: why hasn't George hired a skip and cleaned up his mess yet?

(Maybe he's waiting for Threepio to do it)

There's nothing better for dealing with grief than throwing flimsy desert dwellers onto a raging pyre. The world would be a happier place if we could all do this once a week.

Regarding old comic influences - other than the fact that I painted a huge Dredd mural on my bedroom wall, I was more into building 3D representations of favorite characters. For some reason, 'Action' comic was a favorite of mine, so I made a version of 'Hook Jaw' to play with in the bath.

I've said too much.

You're so right Neil.

'Hook Jaw'? Corrrr... I loved that. IPC comics always tried to capitalise on current pop-culture. 'Jaws' - 'Hook Jaw' and don't forget 'Gums' in 'Whoopee and Monster Fun' comic

Personally, I had webcomics for my real dig into art during my teenage years. I never copied, but I did imitate stylistic elements. Of course, my influences centered more on a manga/anime-lik e style, so it showed more in how I shaped the eyes and the face and whatnot. I've always been more interested in the -impression- of a drawing, anyways.

Hiya, I'm, glad that you're less awed by technical feats of drawing and more into the impression and the hand-made. That way - the former - nerdiness lies.
