luke trains with the remote

By Howard Chaykin - 1977 (Marvel)

Art Notes

Bloody thick line-work! Someone got a new black marker obviously.

This looks like it was done in 1982 or so. The action and drawing is definitely more advanced. Though for our purposes, it fails: not in the least bit funny. Or is it..? Those of an English persuasion - like me - might find some amusement...

luke trains with the remote

The middle right panel, I quite like. "FORP!" But... that's ripped-off form Chaykin's work on the Marvel adaptation. The remote really seems to bounce off Luke's tensed lightsaber.

The Lavatorial Bit

"AGGHH!!!"

"Ben Kenobi (Luke knocks respectfully on door) No joy yet? Shall I run the tap for you?"

Film Notes

jedi younglings being trained. Stupid.

Ok, so all the useless ones eventually chop off the heads of the good ones therefore ensuring the survival of the... dumbest. Right, so how is that supposed to work exactly?

I am absolutely with Harry Plinkett when he mentions how stupid and unoriginal this is. Once again, something from the original and best SW film is reused. But this time in the best Prequel Trilogy tradition, it's completely overdone: over-used. More is more - right? Wrong.

This shot above is from one of the PT films. (Don't ask me which - I've seen them with my son more times than I can count and it's still all just an unintelligible blur)

The remotes even look like the one on Solo's ship! George said he wanted all the movies to "rhyme, like poetry". Fair enough, good idea. But he even has all the Jedi wearing peasanty-farmer clothing from Tatooine. Is Tatooine the centre of the universe or something? Not according to Luke.

Luke looks kind of like "Man at Arms" from the old He Man toys.

Ben looks like uncle Jessie from Dukes of Hazzard.

Hmm, I can see a slight Uncle Jesse/Denver Pyle resemblance alright. I enjoyed him in Grizzly Adams when I was a kid. Luckily Dukes of Hazzard passed me by.Though I hear that daisy was quite a dish.

I believe the expression you are seeking for Ben's pained outburst with regards to English toilet humour would be 'burning a bum jawa' - but I could be mistaken.

I find it interesting how often people get cut off at the end of their sentences in these, especially Luke and Threepio! :P
