Star Wars Convention tales: No.2

Steve Sansweet

Steve Sansweet (Ex-LucasFilm) enjoyed seeing the comic (April 2011) What a nice man he is!

I enjoyed meeting Steve Sansweet (recently retired Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations at LucasFilm for 15 years). I thought he'd be interested in me wee comic and wasn't disappointed! His enthusiasm for it was a joy to behold. Jeremy 'Boba Fett' Bulloch (behind me in photo) leaned in and had a look too, he remembered seeing the 'Empire' adaptation I showed him at last year's event. "Well, hello again!"

niall's copy book

Presumptuous or what?

I had a flick through an old school jotter - or copy - as they call them in Ireland. This happens to be Niall's one. He's the chum who also did a good, pocket-size comic adaptation of SW when he was around 10 or 11. Of course, the jotter's scrawled all over with drawings.

What a mess

1978: Genius - sheer genius.

Just been reading the dreaded Ben-meets-Luke chapter this morning on the way into work – in the 1977 novel. I was afraid to read each line. I wondered, “Will I find that George came up with the Duck dialogue before I did? Will he be able to claim all the credit?”

I read on… first the “That’s a Krayt Dragon call” line from Luke. My pulse quickened.

The Making of Star Wars and the ‘excitingly familiar’.

(Old Blog Article from 6 Aug 2009)

I just finished reading ‘The Making of Star Wars’ and I have to say it’s a fascinating, gripping read. I was given it for my birthday this year and I thought it’d be exciting and inspiring to read about such a staggering achievement – considering the odds, obstacles, studio resistanace, and the so-young team that slaved over it. I wasn’t disappointed.

I really do have to take my hat off to Lucas now. I learned a lot about his totally new approach to Science Fiction movies. The most surprising revelation was that he wanted everything in the film to seem familiar.

(Old Blog Article from Easter 2010)

We’re bringing our 4 year old son to a Star Wars convention this Easter weekend?

“Oh yes John” you say “You’re bringing him.”

No seriously, I’d never go along to it but Johnny loves Star Wars, so hopefully it’ll be a terrific experience for him – and his 5 year old cousin. To be honest, knowing what little kids are like, they could be underwhelmed by it!

“Can I go home now? And watch it on DVD?”

“But that’s Darth Vader – right In front of you!”

Even so, we’ll take lots of photos and he can enjoy it when he’s older. I missed bringing him to meet Ozzy Osbourne last year so this’ll make it up.

There’s something a bit – I don’t know if I should say it. Is it sad that Dave Prowse and Kenny Baker might be appearing at it?
